Clippers reportedly among Anthony Davis’ desired locales

first_imgThe Clippers are among four teams that New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis has interest in joining long-term, according to reports Monday. They joined the Milwaukee Bucks among those on Davis’ list of trade destinations, which already included the Lakers and New York Knicks. The Clippers are widely understood to be holding onto cap space and assets for this offseason, when they hope to attract high-profile free agents. Landing a player of Davis’ caliber could make them even more attractive to another star, but they reportedly have not made an offer for Davis, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Together, Davis and Hill earn about $37.5 million per year, salary that a trade partner must match for a deal to get done.Davis, who turns 26 on March 11, is averaging 29.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots this season. In his most recent meeting with the Clippers, he posted 46 points and 16 rebounds.NO GALLO IN CHARLOTTEThe Clippers will again be without forward Danilo Gallinari, who they listed as out with lower back spasms ahead of Tuesday’s game in Charlotte. In their previous meeting on Jan. 8 at Staples Center, Gallinari scored 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting in the Clippers’ 128-109 victory.Tuesday’s game will be the 10th in a row missed by the 30-year-old Gallinari, who’d missed only one game previously this season, on account of illness. In the past 10 games, the Clippers (29-25 overall) are 5-4 and averaging 110 points while shooting 35.9 percent from 3-point range and 74.3 from the free-throw line.Prior to Gallinari’s injury, they were scoring 114.7 points per game and shooting 38.4 percent from deep and 79.9 percent from the stripe.Following Charlotte, the fourth stop of the Clippers’ six-game trip – on which Gallinari is expected to rejoin them at some point, according to Coach Doc Rivers – will be Thursday in Indiana.Related Articles Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error Clippers vs. Mavericks Game 5 playoff updates from NBA beat reporters Kristaps Porzingis ruled out as Clippers, Mavericks set for Game 5; Follow for game updates For Lakers’ LeBron James, Jacob Blake’s shooting is bigger issue than a big Game 4 victory center_img Clippers hope they can play to their capabilities, quell Mavericks’ momentum What the Clippers are saying the day after Luka Doncic’s game-winner tied series, 2-2 Should they pursue a deal, the Clippers have an enticing mix of young players, including Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (20 years old), Jerome Robinson (21) and Montrezl Harrell (25), as well as 26-year-old Tobias Harris’ expiring $14.8 million contract to offer.Sign up for Home Turf and get exclusive stories every SoCal sports fan must read, sent daily. They’re not keeping clean sheets.”Now he’s going back to a back four again. He can’t make up his mind. Report: Iowa Players’ “Endorsement” Of Donald Trump May Be NCAA Violation

first_imgDonald Trump gives speech during campaign.YouTube/Right Side BroadcastingOn Tuesday night, members of the Iowa football and wrestling teams presented Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump with a Hawkeyes jersey. During the event, after inviting members of the team to the stage, Trump stated that they endorsed him.Obviously, that could just be bluster on Trump’s part, but Iowa athletes’ representation on the campaign trail could be an NCAA violation. The Daily Caller points out the language from NCAA guidelines.According to the NCAA’s Advertising and Promotional Guidelines, student athletes are not allowed to appear in any advertisement that “endorses a political candidate or party, or … advocates a viewpoint on controversial issues of public importance.”This probably won’t result in anything major, and odds are Trump and the players may be unaware of the violations here, but for college athletes, it is almost always best to avoid things like this.[The Daily Caller]last_img read more

Trudeau ignores Tory complaints launches search for next Supreme Court justice

first_imgOTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau officially launched the selection process to replace Supreme Court Justice Clement Gascon today, ignoring calls from the federal Conservatives to delay it.The 59-year-old Gascon, who is from Quebec, announced on Monday that he will step down from the country’s top court for personal and family reasons in September.Trudeau says former prime minister Kim Campbell will once again lead the search as the head of an advisory panel whose members have not yet been named. The panel will be responsible for drawing up a short list of between three and five potential candidates, all of whom must be trained in civil law and hail from Quebec. The decision to launch the search to replace Gascon likely means the next justice will be appointed before this fall’s federal election. It also comes against the wishes of the Opposition Conservatives who asked Trudeau to put the appointment on hold and conduct an investigation into who leaked information about a dispute between Trudeau and former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould over who should be chief justice of Canada’s top court. The Canadian Press and CTV reported last month that Wilson-Raybould recommended Glenn Joyal, chief justice of Manitoba’s Court of Queen’s Bench, as the new chief justice of Canada.According to sources, Trudeau was concerned about her choice because he believed Joyal has a conservative, restrictive approach to interpreting the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.Trudeau ultimately named sitting Supreme Court Justice Richard Wagner to replace Beverley McLachlin, who retired as chief justice in December 2017.He also appointed Alberta judge Sheilah Martin to fill western Canada’s seat on the bench. The leaks, which Trudeau says did not come from his office, landed in the midst of a furor over Wilson-Raybould’s contention that she was improperly pressured last fall to stop the criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin on foreign bribery charges. The reports suggested Trudeau had reasons unrelated to the Montreal engineering giant to move Wilson-Raybould out of the prestigious justice portfolio to Veterans Affairs in a mid-January cabinet shuffle.Wilson-Raybould believes the move was punishment for her refusal to halt the prosecution. She resigned from cabinet a month after the shuffle and was removed from the Liberal caucus in early April.Gascon officially retires Sept. 15, which is after the official start of the fall election. If the House of Commons is to have a chance to hear about the decision and ask questions of the new judge before the election, the advisory committee and Trudeau will have to make a decision before the end of June.Trudeau is not required to select a judge recommended by the advisory panel.Trudeau set May 17 as the deadline for interested to candidates to submit an application package. The Canadian Presslast_img read more

Commentary Even without game could be deciding weekend for Ohio State football

Oregon senior wide receiver Josh Huff (1) dives for the end zone during a game against Washington Oct. 12 at Husky Stadium. Oregon won, 45-24.Credit: Courtesy of MCTAs we head into the 11th week of the college football season, the No. 4-ranked Ohio State football team is facing what is perhaps the most important weekend of its season — despite the fact that the Buckeyes aren’t even playing.Next weekend, OSU will aim to get healthy and stay refreshed for the home stretch of the season with just three regular season games remaining. But although making sure players like sophomore right tackle Taylor Decker and junior linebacker Curtis Grant are fully healthy is vital to the Buckeyes’ success for the rest of the year, that isn’t what makes this weekend so important. In week 11, there are two top-10 matchups, and another game that might be arguably more intriguing.Thursday No. 6 Baylor (7-0, 4-0) is set to host No. 10 Oklahoma (7-1, 4-1) at 7:30 p.m. Later that night, No. 3 Oregon (8-0, 5-0) is set to travel to Stanford, Calif., to take on the No. 5 Cardinal (7-1, 5-1).Saturday, No. 1 Alabama (8-0, 5-0) is set to take on No. 13 LSU (7-2, 3-2) at 8 p.m.If the Buckeyes want to have any shot at playing in the BCS National Championship Game, they have to hope one or more of the undefeated teams fall this weekend. At the moment, OSU is waiting to see if two of the top three teams will fall by the end of the year in hopes of making a push for the title. Each of these three marquee matchups will prove a test for the higher ranked teams involved.Baylor, historically, struggles mightily against the Sooners, only having one win to their name in 22 tries. The one win did come the last time that Oklahoma visited Waco, Texas, in 2011, but that was when the Bears had eventual Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III to lead the way.The Crimson Tide, who have already beaten two ranked teams this year, have also struggled in recent years against their opponent this weekend. Since 2003, Alabama is 4-7 against LSU, including going 1-4 in Bryant-Denny Stadium, where this year’s game will be played.Although the Tide have won the previous two matchups with the Tigers, including a 21-0 victory in the 2012 BCS National Championship Game, it remains to be seen if they can rise above their struggles against LSU.Then there’s Oregon. In 2012, the then-No. 2 Ducks were 10-0 in early November and looked to be on their way to a shot at the national championship. However, Stanford had different plans, with the then-No. 13 Cardinal beating the Ducks, 17-14, in overtime and dashing any title hopes Oregon had.It is always said November is the most important month in college football, with many teams facing the meat of their conference schedule. Last season alone, three of the teams that were ranked in the top five in the BCS standings entering week 11 lost, including both Alabama and Oregon. This weekend is vital to the Buckeyes national title aspirations. OSU has been doing its part by winning all of its games so far, but unless something can happen in the next couple of weekends, the Buckeyes will be on the outside looking in for the national championship. So if a few top teams fall this weekend, the Buckeyes could come out big winners — even on a weekend in which they don’t play. read more

Barcelona will support Dembele says general manager

first_imgThe 21-year-old is being criticized because he has problems with punctuality and was sick during the weekendDuring the week, France national team manager Didier Deschamps was honest and said that Ousmane Dembele had problems with punctuality. The 21-year-old was also sick this weekend and did not appear in Barcelona’s match against Real Betis. But now the Blaugrana general manager Pep Segura has come out in defense of the youngster.David Villa, FC BarcelonaTop 10 players who played for both Barcelona and Valencia Boro Tanchev – September 14, 2019 Time to talk about the best players who represented both Barcelona and Valencia, prior to their La Liga encounter at Camp Nou this evening.“There’s no problem with Dembele,” Segura was quoted by ESPN in a talk with radio Cadena Ser.“It’s a normal situation for a young player with a lot of talent who has arrived at a club as big as Barca, full of great players. He had never experienced that before and there’s an adaptation process that he has to go through.”“He’s really young and he’s never had to get up to adjust to a playing style like ours. We admit he’s finding it difficult. He also recognizes that. What we are doing is working as hard as possible so that he can adapt in the best possible way,” he added.“As of today we have no offers for Dembele and we have no plans to change the structure of the squad.”last_img read more
